Sunderland take on Chelsea in the final matchweek and both sides still have plenty to play for in the race for Europe. The Black Cats sit 10th on 51 points while their visitors hover around 8th or 9th with 52. A win for either could swing things nicely.
They already met once this season and Sunderland came away with a 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge back in October. That result still stings for Chelsea and gives the home side extra belief this time around. Sunderland have also been strong on their own patch all year so expect them to make life uncomfortable again.
Injuries and bans hit both squads hard. Sunderland miss Omar Alderete with a knock, Bertrand Traoré and Romaine Mundle through knee and hamstring issues plus Daniel Ballard who sits out through suspension. Chelsea fare little better with Reece James banned, Estevao and Jamie Gittens carrying thigh problems, Mykhailo Mudryk out on a doping ban and Jesse Derry sidelined by a head injury. Pedro Neto remains doubtful too.
Chelsea are expected to line up in a 4-2-3-1 with Robert Sánchez in goal behind Josh Acheampong, Trevoh Chalobah and the rest. Up front Cole Palmer pulls the strings while Enzo Fernández chips in with goals and assists. On the other side Brian Brobbey leads the line for Sunderland after netting seven times this campaign. Wilson Isidor and Enzo Le Fée add real threat with their own goal tallies and creative output.
Form has been nothing special for either team lately yet the motivation remains high. Both clubs know a positive result here could secure European football and that edge should produce an open contest. Sunderland will look to exploit the spaces left by Chelsea's missing defenders while the visitors rely on their creative sparks to nick something on the break.
Expect Sunderland to stay compact and hit on the counter. Chelsea have the quality in attack but the absences could blunt them. A draw feels the likeliest outcome though the home side carry real hope of taking all three points.
