Brighton vs Manchester United: Match Preview

21 May 2026, 15:05 Match: 2026-05-24 15:00 UTC Sarah Mitchell
Quick Summary

Manchester United visit Brighton on the Premier League final day, already secure in third with Champions League qualification. Brighton sit seventh and need points for Conference League spots despite key injuries to Mitoma and others. Expect United to control but a competitive match.

Manchester United arrive at Brighton on the final day with their Champions League spot already locked in at third place on 68 points. Brighton sit seventh on 53 points and still have work to do if they want Conference League qualification. Their form has been up and down lately with a 0-1 loss to Leeds followed by a 3-0 win over Wolves then another defeat against Newcastle. United look sharper by comparison after four wins in five matches including that 3-2 result at Liverpool.

Brighton will lean on Danny Welbeck who has netted 13 goals while Diego Gómez has chipped in with five. But they are missing Kaoru Mitoma through a hamstring problem along with Adam Webster and Stefanos Tzimas both sidelined by knee issues. Mats Wieffer remains doubtful with an ankle concern. United have their own worries with Matthijs de Ligt out through a back injury and Benjamin Sesko doubtful over a lower leg problem. Manuel Ugarte is questionable too.

Bruno Fernandes continues to pull the strings for the visitors and they also boast Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo both on ten goals this season. Sesko leads their scoring chart with eleven but his availability is the big question mark. No fresh head to head data from this campaign exists to lean on so recent results and motivation levels will matter most here.

Brighton have shown they can put teams under pressure at home especially after that comfortable win against Chelsea back in April. Yet United's defensive organisation has held firm in several tight games lately and they rarely look rattled even when the result means little. Expect the visitors to control large spells but Brighton should still create enough to keep things interesting.

Recommended Bets

Manchester United -0.25 @1.85 — they've collected 13 points from the last 15 available and face a Brighton side missing three key defenders.

Over 2.5 goals @2.10 — both teams have seen three or more goals in four of their last five outings combined.

Brighton to score @1.65 — Welbeck has found the net in their last two home wins and United have conceded in three of their previous four away matches.

Odds tend to shorten closer to kickoff — lock in value now.
