Quick Summary

Nottingham Forest face FC Porto in a tense Europa League quarter-final, with the aggregate tied at 1-1. Forest, battling Premier League relegation, host at home despite key injuries, while Porto's attack remains a threat. Expect a gritty showdown with goals from stars like Igor Jesus.

Nottingham Forest and FC Porto are locked in a tense Europa League quarter-final, with the aggregate sitting at 1-1 after that first-leg stalemate. It's a classic knockout stage showdown, and Forest, battling to avoid the Premier League drop, can't afford any slip-ups at home.

Forest's recent run has been all about grit and draws. They managed a 1-1 tie with Aston Villa on April 12, repeating the trick against Porto just three days earlier. But they've struggled for wins, losing 0-3 to Tottenham on March 22 and drawing 0-0 with Fulham before that. And let's not forget that 2-2 thriller with Manchester City on March 4; it's clear they're hard to break down, even if results aren't clicking. Porto, on the other hand, have shown more spark. They bounced back with a 3-1 victory over Estoril on April 12, though a 2-2 draw with Famalicão on April 4 exposed some vulnerabilities. Still, they've picked up wins against Braga and Moreirense in March, which keeps them looking like title favorites in Portugal.

Head-to-head, these sides know each other well from this season. That April 9 clash ended 1-1, and way back in October 2025, Forest stunned Porto with a 2-0 win in the league phase. It's given the English side a psychological edge, especially with Porto's shaky history on English soil.

Injuries are hitting both teams hard, which could shake things up. Forest are without Jair Cunha due to a foot injury, and they've got Willy Boly, Nicolò Savona, and John Victor sidelined with knee issues. That might force some makeshift defending. Porto aren't faring better; Samu Aghehowa's out with a cruciate ligament tear, Luuk de Jong's done for the season with a knock, and Nehuén Pérez and A. Miranda are also absent. It's a blow for their attack.

Lineups could tell a story here. UEFA.com predicts Forest starting with Ortega in goal, backed by Domínguez, Abbott, Murillo, and Morato, with McAtee, Yates, and Anderson in midfield, and Bakwa, Jesus, and Hudson-Odoi up top. Porto might line up with Diogo Costa between the posts, a defense of Alberto Costa, Kiwior, Bednarek, and Zaidu, midfield trio of Varela, Gabriel Veiga, and Froholdt, and attackers William Gomes, Deniz Gül, and Pepê.

In the Premier League, Forest sit 16th on 33 points from 32 games, teetering on the edge of trouble. Porto, though, dominate their domestic scene, topping the Primeira Liga with 76 points from 29 matches. Key players will make the difference—Igor Jesus leads Forest's charge with 13 goals overall, including seven in Europe, while Morgan Gibbs-White chips in with nine Premier League goals and five assists. Callum Hudson-Odoi's been their assist king. For Porto, William Gomes has 14 goals, stepping up with Samu Aghehowa injured, and Borja Sainz adds seven more.

This is do-or-die for both in the Europa League, and I reckon Forest should dig deep at home to force extra time, but Porto's quality might just shine through. Expect a closely fought match where goals could decide it.

They've got the firepower, so I'll go with Forest edging the tie on aggregate.
